Sumac Ground

Description

Sumac comes from the berries/fruit of the sumac tree/shrub, which is native to Southern Europe, East Asia, Africa and North America and is mainly associated with Middle Eastern cuisine; the berries are dried and ground to a coarse powder which has a vibrant dark red to deep purple colour and has a strong spicy aroma with a tangy lemon flavour, it’s one of the major ingredients of the spice mix Za’atar, which is used as a dry meat rub/marinade, but Sumac is mainly used in the last stage of cooking or sprinkled over food just before serving as a colourful garnish (hummus, salads and fries), also goes very well with roasted vegetables, grilled lamb, chicken and fish.
